Lesson 18: A Post-Modern Page

Jackie Angers, Fall 2010

Jackie used the text as a texture. Color was used so only key phrases could be easily read, perhaps supporting the idea "no one reads anymore."

Recommendations

First of all, I enjoy how you've used the white as both a background color and a foreground color (for the text)! Text is now a texture, legibility is compromised. I get the idea that people don't have to read anymore—as long as the key points are readily available!

But there are two small design decisions undermining the page. First, the bright yellow background is distracting. It's overwhelmingly bright, and hurts the eyes a bit. I recommend using a duller, darker, or lighter color so the layout itself pops out more!

Second, the links are slightly too small. The web font is a bit hard to read because it has small counterforms and is set in all caps. Try bumping them up a bit.

Overall, this is a great page! You've taken some risks and had a lot of fun with the layout—while creating something that feels meaningful to the text. Nice job.
